Are Best Buy Dates Really Expiration Dates?
Almost every grocery item you buy has a date of some sort on it, but is that date really an expiration date? Most likely, if the item is a pantry item and not meat or diary the date on the package is a best by date not an expiration date. What does that mean?
It means that the date on the package is the date that the manufacturer guarantees the food in the package to taste its freshest. It is not the date that the food spoils or will make you sick. Usually the food will still taste the same as it would before the date as long at the package hasn’t been opened or went through drastic temperature chages.
So the next time you are going through your pantry do not throw out the food that is past its best by date. Try it you will most likely like it. Save your grocery money for new food!
