Save Your Orange and Lemon Zest
I love to cook delicious gourmet food. In a lot of recipes they ask for lemon or orange zest. I have often found myself running to the store to buy a lemon or orange just for the zest. This can add up to lots of money wasted. Especially for me because I often use lemon and oranges for lots of things, including eating. Did you know that you can freeze the zest of citrus fruit?
The next time you are going to eat an orange or use a lemon zest the skin first. Make sure to only zest the colored part and not the white because the white part is bitter. Once you have the pile of zest built up put it into a freezer bag and freeze it. The little bags of zest take up zero space in your freezer and can be frozen forever. This way the next time you have to cook something that requires zest it will be right there in your freezer. Saving you time and money.
